10 Scriptures On Fear To Memorize To Renew Your Mind

Faith over fear. You’ve probably heard that phrase a time or two. It’s a great slogan for a t-shirt, but putting that line into practice can be hard when the challenges of life make you fearful. Thankfully, Christians aren’t powerless against fear. The Bible is a living and active book with the truth you need to battle those fearful thoughts.

Not sure where to look, or what verses could help you overcome fear? Read on to discover 10 Scriptures on fear to memorize to renew your mind.

What it Means to “Fear Not”

Fear is a natural response to challenges or the unknown. It’s an emotion that serves a valuable purpose (think fight or flight response), but it can quickly become unhealthy when it paralyzes us or propels us into frantic behavior. Negative outcomes aside, the Bible actually commands us to not be afraid. In fact, there are over 300 variations of the command to “fear not” throughout Scripture.

As Christians, we don’t need to fear because we know God is in control. God is on His throne, meaning nothing else is – not a diagnosis, unmet expectations, or uncertain future. He alone has all power and all authority, and nothing can threaten that.

That means when fear creeps in, we believers are called to take our fear and sift it through the unfailing promises of God and His unchanging character.

Ten Bible Verses on Fear to Memorize

Memorizing Scripture is a powerful tool in the fight against fear. The Bible tells us that we have everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), and renewing our minds through the living Word of God is proof of that.

  1. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  Isaiah 41:10
  1. …For he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ’The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’” Hebrews 13:5b-6
  1. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7
  1. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4
  1. “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
  1. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27
  1. “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1
  1. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.” Psalm 46:1-3
  1. “Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” Psalm 55:22
  1. “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” Psalm 91:1-2

We can rest in the fact that nothing takes our sovereign God by surprise. Take your fears, worries, and anxieties before God because He cares about them and He desires your good (1 Peter 5:7; Romans 8:28).

The truth of God’s Word and His promises bridge the gap between the fear you feel and what you know to be true about God and His love for you. Renewing your mind through the memorization of His Word is the best defense against the fears of this world.
